BALKARIA
The «Balkaria» ensemble was founded in 1988 by the choreographer Mutai Ulbachev to preserve the traditional dances from the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, located in the northern part of Caucasus. Its repertoire includes the solemn Tuz Tepsseu dance, the Gollu fire dance, the powerful Aslanbiy dance, the slow and graceful dances of the women, as well as burlesque dances which illustrate the humor of these people. Traditional music – drums, accordion, balalaïka – shows the liveliness of the population, and the voices of the choir are breathtaking.
